Russia’s shocking and unprovoked attack on Ukraine has horrified the free world. President Putin’s actions are clearly an affront to democracy and a violation of international law. His purported reasoning is “to de-militarise and de-Nazify” his western-leaning neighbour which was hoping to join NATO and therefore “poses a threat to Russia”. But is it in reality about an egotistical and dictatorial ex-KGB officer from the Soviet era seeking to expand his empire?
